Danger of Long-term Money: Funded Pension System, Mortgage, and Current Financial Crisis in the U.S.
Rapid growth of funded pension systems in the United States, which began in the early 1980”s, led to the transition from predominantly direct ownership of corporate stocks to predominantly indirect ownership of corporate stocks by the households. It affected the quality of investment in the corporate business (especially in mortgage) negatively and eventually became one of the main causes of the current financial crisis. The paper provides a brief overview and analysis of anti-crisis policy of the U.S. authorities.
